Once again, the retail spaces and malls, school “non-specific holiday” recitals, and party playlists are filled with popular Christmas songs. One or two of which might be a tad overplayed.
That’s fine is you love them, but let’s add a few more lesser spun catchy ditties to the mix so “All I Want for Christmas is You” doesn’t come up every 15 minutes.
“Snow, Snow, Snow” by Michael Ford and the ’53 Fords
The song written by Sandra Boynton for her Christmas book of the same name. Everyone loves Boyton, and she always collaborates with great musicians. I can listen to this three times in row easily.
“Christmas Love” by Jimin
“Aw, man, she’s giving us a K-Pop artist again. Isn’t Jimin from BTS? Yes, he is and BTS just knocked the over-exposed Taylor Swift out of the Number One position on iTunes. That should be reason alone to enjoy this one. Plus, it’s a nifty song great for road trips.
“Merry Christmas Everyone” by Shakin’ Stevens
Welsh singer Shakin’ Stevens put this happy song out back in 1985, and it really deserves more airplay. I mean, Wham and that pretentious Band Aid song aren’t the only Christmas songs that represents the 80s! No heartbreak or virtue signaling, just happy wishes and vibes.
“White Christmas” by Human Nature
I have to get one classic Christmas song cover in there, and “White Christmas” has been covered plenty. Yet, I really love the attitude of this Vegas group and their clear four-part harmony.
“Christmas Dance” by Darren Criss
The only thing I really know about Darren Criss is I think he was in Glee…which I never saw. Yet, I know he’s a prolific actor and singer, and dang it, this nerdy catchy tune of his is really fun. It’s hard not the enjoy this one.
So, c’mon! Let one or two of these earworms have this “Christmas Dance” in your head for a bit. There’s still a lot of season ahead, but it goes by way too fast. Might as well sing along.
