What a great surprise! Annie Lennox on Sunday Jams. Let’s do it. Let’s enjoy one of the very best voices in modern music. This whole thing is a wonderful surprise. When Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart first hit the scene o so many years ago with the Eurythmics, I had my money on ‘one hit wonder’. Yeah, Sweet Dreams was fantastic, but I just didn’t see anything beyond that one song. That’s where the surprise part comes in.
Incredible talent is the main part of the recipe for success and Annie Lennox has it in spades. She’s got a voice so smooth, they tried to put in in a jar so you could spread it on waffles. And emotion? Yup. Annie Lennox is the real deal. Can’t believe I ever doubted. Here’s three great ones from her on Sunday Jams.
We’re going to kick it off with one from that OG album, Sweet Dreams. It’s still one helluva album and listen to what she does on this track. Insane! Then we’ll expand and take the more unexpected ride. There’s such a beauty and heartache and does of anger with her voice. I can’t think if any else like Annie Lennox. Who else sings like this?
Her voice. Come on.
Here’s the one that’s has been popping up a lot in my playlist. This is some next level stuff. Less is more. The song: Why? Overlooked classic? Yup. This song will gently rip your heart out. I can’t just listen to this once. I gotta go at least 3 time. Just to be sure I heard something so insanely good.
What a wonderful surprise that you selected the ethereal beauty of Annie Lennox’s voice to feature on Sunday Jams.
When Sweet Dreams came out,I was wasn’t sure what to make of the orange crewcut and suit, but her talent was undeniable. As the Eurythmics evolved,so did her ability to deliver breathtaking vocals and to hold her own with the likes of Aretha Franklin and Al Green and then go on to a respected solo career.
Your selection of songs are a testament to her vocal ability like in Love Is Stranger. The sheer perfection of No More,I Love You’s and then there’s the phenomenal song Why? It’s my favorite and it’s amazing. Annie Lennox was born on Christmas Day ,so a Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas to her. Your great taste in music never ceases to amaze me. Thank you Michael!
That Annie Lennox surprised everybody! HA! Love her voice. So good!
