It’s Holy Week.
There are many in Hollywood and throughout social media who openly insult Christianity and try to prove a point. Yet, there are also others who tend to push the envelope a little and try to pucker the butts of those who think we need to be uptight and humorless in our look at religious legalism. Jesus isn’t Mohammad. You can draw Him, cosplay Him, parody Him in movies and television and He won’t strike us down.
That being said, here are some interesting, funny, and random clips about The Man Himself, Jesus:
Rik Mayall’s Herod
In the 70s, my dad was thought Jesus Christ Superstar was the worst thing ever, but done right…and with the right cast…it is great. For example, the late Rick Mayall’s King Herod in this one 2000 version portrayed him as the absolute, egocentric monologuing supervillain he was:
This dude’s Jesus Costume
A cosplayer in Arizona won Halloween with this one.
Those AnimeJesus Clips
The Internet is sometimes just so weird and wonderful, and now thanks to AI…well…Jesus is an anime hero. Some of these clips are actually really beautiful and deep. Good tools for teaching the lessons of Christ.
And then some of them feature things like Jesus taking on Chucky…
Phil Hartman’s Jesus on SNL
Remember when Saturday Night Live could actually poke fun without being total douchebags towards people of faith? Phil Hartman was a treasure.
Happy Birthday Jesus Cafes
Finally, let’s toss in a Christmastime post, because if you want to see some love for Jesus, you only need to visit Korea at Christmas! This event officially on my bucket list..
Both Christians and Jews share the love of the book of Psalms, and the reminder of making “a joyful noise” isn’t just good for our mental health…it’s good for our souls.
I hope those who celebrate have a beautiful Easter this weekend, but also I hope everyone, no matter what you believe, remember to embrace the joy of life every day.
