I don’t know about you all, but my American Spidey sense is tingling. Sure, I want all these world cup visitors to have a good time, but how long can they keep this going? It’s been an epic run of good times and good vibes, but there’s a part of me that is just waiting for the shoe to drop.

Is anyone else getting that sense? I know I am. It’s all part of the cycle here in the states. America loves underdogs. That’s why these feel-good stories take off in the first place. But then, the person (or persons) we feel so good about become a little too popular and we have to tear em down. You know, to insure their underdog status. Then after they have become almost thoroughly crushed? They have their 3rd act. The comeback of the underdog.

It’s the Rocky story. It’s the Robert Downey Jr arc. It’s Apple. It’s Harry Truman. It’s Donald Trump. It’s America itself! We were built by underdogs. We love em!

And so, I would say to all the wonderful people visiting America and having a blast: Please continue. Just don’t be shocked when we start tearing you down so we can build you back up. It’s what we do. It means we like you.
