The one that was mocked relentlessly for decades. I stumbled across several threads on X last night and needless to say, I was a bit taken aback by what I was learning. Ready to learn some stuff about Nixon? Let’s go!
We’re all probably familiar with the movie and book “All the president’s men” the book about the 2 young reporters who just bravely followed the Watergate story wherever it went. The just wanted the truth, dang it. One of those young cub reporters was Bob Woodward. He started working at the Washington Post shortly after leaving his gig as a high-level intelligence officer in the Navy. Watergate was his first story. What a ‘lucky’ break for him! What are odds of that?

6/ The so-called cover-up began without Nixon. On June 19 – just two days after the arrests – John Dean convened a meeting to begin protecting campaign officials. Dean even bragged about being the “desk officer of the cover-up.”

7/ That infamous June 23 “smoking gun” tape? You might want to listen to it. Nixon never told the CIA to shut down the FBI. His concern? Protecting two Democratic donors who had quietly contributed before disclosure laws kicked in.

8/ Nixon told the FBI to go full speed ahead. On July 6, 1972, he told Acting Director Pat Gray to “go wherever the leads take you.” That’s a president demanding the truth.
It’s all just so completely wild…
