Let’s dive into the trailer for Dune: Part 3. I like to start things off with a compliment: This looks beautiful. The shots and cinematography are gorgeous. Dune 3 looks like a movie! A cinematic experience. As it should be, right? Of course I’m right. We want a big screen experience and Dune 3 looks like it’s going to deliver.
Now, let’s talk story. That seems to be where the problems are. It felt like everything was resolved in Dune 2. I know it wasn’t. But it felt like it was. Yes, the galaxy is big, and Chani was mad at Paul at the end of Dune 2, but everything felt like it was done. So, now they have to fire up the drama again. Okay. The bad guys are going to try to take out Paul. Hmmm. Okay. That’s probably enough. We don’t have a big villain so far, but okay. Let’s see.
Can Dune: Part 3 summon enough interest at the box office? I think it certainly can. Does it look good? It sure does. How do we feel about the plot? That… remains to be seen. But I plan on watching.
I read the Dune books ages ago. Think I tapped out after the 3rd book. Major plot points I can remember. But this is a Hollywood adaptation we’re dealing with. The farther we get from part one, the more they just start making thing up. But all in all, I’m not complaining. The Dune: Part 3 trailer overall, looks right. What do you think? The big question for me is: What will the studio do next with this franchise? This ain’t easy to do. Credit where credit is due: Denis Villenueve has a done a wonderful job with these 3 flicks. Dune 3 hits theaters on Dec. 18th.
