Before we start, can I get some recognition for that fantastic pun? Playboys back… with a picture of a Playboy bunny’s back? That felt special to me, and I feel it deserves a moment. Okay, now back to our regularly scheduled post about the return of Playboy magazine.
For a quick refresher course in Playboy magazine, here you go: Playboy magazine launched in 1953 with Marilyn Monroe on the cover. The titillating, men’s magazine was a smashing success. They sold tons of magazines over the years. It was never ‘smutty’ like other magazines that came along. Playboy was always ‘cool’. Nothing hardcore. Ever. And honestly, some great interviews! That was the recipe: Smoke show models and great interviews.
Then came the internet. That took a big bite out of sales. Copycat mags like Maxim didn’t help and then came the day that playboy founder Hugh Hefner passed and the magazine was without a skipper at the helm. They got away from nudity, for some insane reason and limped along for a few years and in 2020 called it a day.
In 2024 Playboy came back as an annual mag. And due to sales, they are now quarterly. Turns out there is a market for sexy hotties and good reads! Who knew? I joke, because I care. Playboy is back in print and selling lots of magazines! Good for them! Let’s keep it classy!
