ZZ Top drummer, Frank Beard has passed. RIP

It’s a sad day for ZZ Top fans. Heck, it’s a sad day for music fans. The drummer and founding member of ZZ Top, Frank Beard has passed at the age of 77. He will be missed. The band’s Singer and Guitarist, Billy Gibbon has said that the band will continue. That’s cool. What else can you do? Keep going.

ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill passed a few years back and the band kept going. There’s no need to stop now. It’s a sad one though. Ironically, many people were introduced to the Houston TX band in the 80’s when it sounded like they were using a drum machine. It’s always seemed odd to me, because ZZ Top was rooted in the Blues. They invented the Texas Blues sound. Maybe even the genre. They weren’t about drum machines. They were about real instruments and a live sound.

We wish, Billy Gibbons the best with whatever the future may hold for ZZ Top. And our thoughts and prayers are with the Beard family. Frank will be missed. Let’s take a look at some of the tributes and posts on social media.

Enjoy this live version of La Grange. It’s live. Beard is one point. Just the rhythmic engine that powers the whole thing and keeps the train rolling. God Bless, ya Frank Beard.
