Theres a bit of a tempest in a teapot brewing over the Ed Sheeran tour. After rapper Macklemore was booted from the tour for some kind of Palestine rant or statement, other acts are now backing out as some kind of show of unity? I’ll look into what happened with Macklemore here, but it doesn’t really affect what I’m trying to convey and that is this: Ed Sheeran is the tour. He’s the headliner. It’s his name on the poster and he’s the guy who’s selling the tickets. The dude can go it alone if needs be.
Getting asked to be the opening act is really more of a gift. It’s a nice thing that headliners do. Don’t confuse being the opening act with being important. When you’re the headliner? Then you can stomp your feet.
As for the Macklemore thing, here’s a statement from Ed Sheeran.
Oh no… more openers have quit… whatever will Sheeran do?
Again: Ed is the headliner. He’s got the songs.
Ed Sheeran has almost 60 million subscribers on YouTube. His music has hundreds of millions of listens. Ed Sheeran and his tour will be just fine. Macklemore can go rap about thrift shops at his local bar.
This one? 322 million views. Just saying.
Lastly. I volunteer. Ed, you looking for an opening act? Something fun? I got you covered.
