Vintage Halloween Animation for Your Spooky Week

This week, I’ve noticed some sites have “rediscovered” a classic 1929 Disney Silly Symphony toon, drawn by none other than the early Disney legend, Ub Iwerks:

Hell’s Bells

This is the same year as the very first Silly Symphony classic was also released:

Skeleton Dance

By 1934 Iwerks was doing his own thing ComiColor series, and released a full color short, not to be confused with Disney’s film from 1949.

The Headless Horseman

There’s just something about that old school vintage (aka “Rubber Hose” Animation) where everything is in noodlelike motion, and repetitive movements and sight gags just hit different. Even with today’s computer animation, AI, and studios filled with animation countless assistants, people still love this vintage animation look drawn and created by just a handful of talents.

One of the classics for Halloween came from another animation legend Max Fleischer:

Betty Boop’s Hallowe’en Party

Don’t get too spooked by the everything from elections to trigger-warnings, as “Rubber Hose” other vintage animation is still out there representing.

Happy Halloween Week, be safe and be silly.

I’ll leave in full color with and MGM short from 1936:

Bottles
