WSJ Op-Ed Rips Into Facebook ‘Fact-Checkers’

In an opinion piece for The Wall St. Journal, physicist Steven E. Koonin ripped into Facebook “fact-checkers” as “no better than trolls who pan political adversaries.” Ha! So, in other words water is wet and the sky is blue. It does kind of feel like the obvious has been stated. But it’s actually good.

It’s yet another voice added to the growing chorus of people who are calling bullshit on the social media giant. Hopefully we’re one step closer to having some kind of meaningful change on the horizon.

Things can’t and shouldn’t go on like this. We’re all familiar with the recipe Facebook seems to be using: A group of “fact-checkers” who overwhelmingly share the same political beliefs. They see a post that goes against their narrative or makes their side look bad so they find a reason to slap a warning on it. Or worse they have the post removed. After so many red flags against your page, they reduce your reach or, worse still, remove your page.

Complete madness. Dissent won’t be tolerated. Think like we do or else. That’s the message. Only groupthink will be tolerated. It has to end.

I’m glad to hear of another op-ed about the Facebook “fact-checkers” in The WSJ. We need more. So much more.
