Resident Evil 7 Is Still Great after 4 years!

Resident Evil 7 is still an exhilarating experience even after 4 years since the release of the game in 2017. I will be breaking this review into two parts; the first being story (which will get a score out of five) and the second being gameplay and visuals (which will also get a score out of five). I will add the two scores up and the final score will be out of ten.

Story

The story of Resident Evil 7 follows Ethan Winters. He sets out to rescue his wife, Mia, who has been missing for 3 years. He gets an email from her with an address which leads him to a very swampy and southern abandoned mansion. The story is a lot of fun and its twists and turns throughout make it very memorable. However, it follows a lot of basic tropes that the Resident Evil games always do. I won’t spoil any in case you want to play it but those tropes bump the score down a tiny bit. I would give the story a 4/5.

Gameplay & Visuals

The gameplay and visuals for Resident Evil 7 are outstanding. Resident Evil needed a revamp as a franchise and this game did exactly that. The new first person view instead of third person adds a level of immersion that is like no other. The gameplay is slower and methodical, and you find yourself checking every corner in case a monster tries to jump out at you rather than running through dozens of zombies. The slow-paced movement and gameplay style does have its weak spots. The boss fights and combat encounters are a little weird since you move fairly slow. However, I will say this adds a level of scariness to the game when you are trying to run as fast as you can but the monsters just keep catching up. The visuals are great and the graphics are outstanding. The creaking of the doors as you open them adds a terrifying aspect throughout the entire game. I would have to give the gameplay and visuals a 4/5.

Overall

Overall, I think that this game definitely holds up over the past couple of years. This is the fourth Resident Evil game I have played and they haven’t disappointed me yet. These games are awesome and I would definitely recommend them if you are into scary stuff. As for the final score, Resident Evil 7 gets an 8/10 from me, a solid game with a solid story and solid gameplay.
