The people of Boston Dynamics have just released a new video: “Spot’s On It.” A rather transparent attempt to soften the image of their creation. To us it’s just another terrifying display of a machine that won’t hesitate to kill you. Tada!

You can have these robots dance to happy pop songs all you want. It doesn’t change the reality. Videos like this are the equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig. But in this case the pig is a mechanical killing machine. I’m not amused by Spot at all.
What is this robot’s purpose? How does it help humanity? What safety protocols are in place to ensure these things can never be used to harm a human? I’m guessing zero. Granted, at this stage of development Spot is very much dependent on its human programmers. But with each passing moment I’m also quite confident they are adding more and more A.I. to help Spot navigate its surroundings. There’s the rub. The artificial intelligence.
When “scientists” push the envelope on A.I. they are playing with fire. A fire that once lit will be completely unforgiving. Is there any oversight? Is anyone working to make sure that when A.I. becomes self aware, harming humans won’t be an option? Should that be mandatory for ALL A.I. and robotics experiments?
And even if it was, do you have confidence that “scientists” will somehow police themselves? If so, how was the last year of Covid for ya? That’s looking more and more like it came out of a lab. Either an accident or something more nefarious. So, pardon me if I have little to no faith in these lab idiots calling themselves scientists.
But let’s get back to “Spot’s On It” and the cute little dance video. The synchronized movements of death. Surely this thing is harmless…cause look! They’re dancing! Yeah…no. This is a killing machine that just needs a gun.
Do you not think the military is salivating over that idea? Do you not think Boston Dynamics isn’t already counting the money? And lord help us if these things were ever deployed with weapons WITHOUT A.I. Would some remote operator of Spot hesitate to open fire on a crowd that were just blips on a screen and not “real” people? It would take the humanity out of conflict. Just sit back in your gaming chair, hundreds of miles away, and press the buttons on your controller. Pip, pip, pip. Target eliminated. Thanks, Spot.
This shit is super dangerous and we need to treat it like the threat it is.
Now, here’s the cute “Spot’s On It” video.
ohhh nooo!! NO NO NO
I’d like to invest in a company that makes personal electro-magnetic-pulse devices.
this shit legit worries me
Agreed. And since we can expect them to start working at our local fast food joints soon, they’ll be all over the damned place.
Right?! It seems like its just a matter of time. And it’s right around the corner!
