A few years ago, I ran across a great video by the financial company Johnston Grocke explaining how taxes works with a simple story of ten buds enjoying a beer at a bar.

With privileged politicians once again barking about “taxing the rich” it seems about time to share this great explanation of why this won’t necessarily make things fairer or better for anyone.
If you want a few more simple, tax explanations, the video kings at PragerU have been creating money and tax-related videos for some time. This week, they created a one-hour “What You Need to Know About Taxes” video marathon. It includes their videos on a flat tax, progressive income tax, the Laffer Curve, and more. It also addresses that wonderful question on whether the rich are paying their fair share.
Here’s the newly compiled marathon, but each of these individual, shorter videos are still offered on the PragerU website and YouTube channel.
Taxes and money are things even younger people need to know about before they start screaming about the “unfair advantage” of the rich. First, kids need to know about being responsible with their own money. PragerU also makes a few kid-friendly videos on simple concepts like this one on earning and saving bucks.
Even the youngest among us catch on early that the gap between the “haves” and the “have nots” seems unfair. A conservative minded children’s book company, Tuttle Twins, who offer several short discussion-starting podcasts for parents on history, economics, liberty and pop culture, talked about why Capitalists are always portrayed as the “bad guys” in movies.
Tuttle Twins short podcasts are available on several services like Spotify and iTunes.
It can be frustrating today to watch the “rich and powerful” ease their way through life, while many others work hard everyday for much less. It is also easy to scream for seemingly fair solutions that may just not be the best thing for everyone in the long run.
Sit back, enjoy these videos, and take some time to learn a little about how taxes and the economy works. Cheers.
