‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Fan Film as Sharp as Any Hollywood Movie

Sci-fi movies clearly influenced the Cyberpunk 2077 video game. So it’s probably not surprising that a group of people made a Cyberpunk 2077 fan film and released it last year. And it’s as sharp as anything you might see coming from Hollywood.

YouTube channel T7pro released “Cyberpunk 2077 – Phoenix Program” in December of 2020. The video game Cyberpunk 2077 features a character based on the likeness of Keanu Reeves. And so the lead actor in the fan film bears a passing resemblance for him. The entire production is professional. Indeed, it bears the production values of a major Hollywood movie—acting, cinematography, editing, special effects, fight scenes, music, and so forth. And if you have 40 minutes and an interest in sci-fi movies—cyberpunk, specifically—you’ll probably want to watch it.

If you’re having a hard time believing that this is only a fan film, a quick look through the rest of the videos on T7pro reveal that the filmmakers appear to be involved in professional movie-making. For instance, one video is an “Emmy Submission For Outstanding Stunt Coordination” for the AMC series Into the Badlands.

So that explains the high quality of “Cyberpunk 2077 – Phoenix Program.”

T7pro has produced other fan films as well, including a Star Wars one, which The Loftus Party highlighted a few months back.

I’ve never quite understood the legality of people writing stories or making movies based on other people’s intellectual property, and I would not want to participate in either. However, the practice has obviously become common. And T7pro put a lot of time, effort, and money into making its Cyberpunk 2077 fan film. And based on the number of views it’s racked up, a lot of people like it.
