The financial and social media world woke up to the news that Elon Musk bought a veritable shit ton of stock in Twitter. Dude has a 9% stake in the company now. Yay? So, what happens now? Are big changes coming to the social media site? I doubt it. Can Elon raise holy hell about what twitter does? Sure. Can he threaten to sell if he’s upset at a policy? Yup. Will he get the inside scoop on the mysterious ‘algorithms’ twitter uses? Doubtful. And isn’t that what this whole censorship argument is about? We’re being presented a false reality across social media. Twitter, Facebook, Google, YouTube etc. decide what they will let you see. They decide what trends. They decide what’s ‘Popular’ and therefore ‘good’ and acceptable. That is the big problem. We’re being led towards a false reality all powered by dopamine hits we get when someone ‘likes’ our posts. Good ol’ fashioned positive reinforcement behavioral therapy.
Now, don’t get it twisted. I’m happy that Elon jumped into the fray over at Twitter. Maybe there’s something very real he can do there to make a difference. I really hope so. I’m sure I’m missing something. Pretty sure Elon may know a thing or two that I’m unaware of. Best of luck dude.
