Here’s the breaking news. The Biden administration and the CDC are extending the travel mask requirement for an additional two weeks. Why? We were looking at a report and here’s the headscratcher:

(According to person familiar with the matter) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was set to extend the order, which was to expire on April 18, by two weeks to monitor for any observable increase in severe virus outcomes as cases rise in parts of the country. The move was being made out of abundance of caution, the person said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to preview the CDC’s action. The requirement will now extend through May 3, 2022.

Okay… you got that? There’s a slight uptick in cases. So… keep the masks on to monitor any observable increase. Uh huh. Compared to what? Haven’t masks been a requirement for airlines this whole time? What will they compare the data with? This is very similar to the ‘lucky tee shirt’ theory of football fans. I wore this shirt and we won. Therefore, I must always wear the shirt. Very little science here.

If Rona cases, go up and the mask mandate for travel is still in effect, what does that mean? Masks work? And if cases go down, won’t that be attributed to masks as well? I legit don’t see the science part. At some point you gotta take the mask off. We all know this. Even for the most scientific, science of all of science-land. At some point you have to take them off.
