Sunday Jams: Kickin’ Back with Mayer Hawthorne

Sundays are a time of relaxing and just chillin’ to some cool sounds, like the R&B and soul influenced tunes from the likes of Mayer Hawthorne.

Hawthorne, who hails from Ann Arbor, is a massively talented performer and producer, and including hip-hop projects with Jake One under the name Tuxedo.

Let’s go back about 10 years this smooth love-gone-wrong tune, “The Walk”, which is fantastic on its own, but is enhanced with a next level couple’s spat in his video:

Hawthorne is one of these guys who you could just stream for an entire afternoon and feel groovier when the evening hits. Or, you could pop up a few of his videos and get sucked into the storytelling.

I’m a sucker for a good noir filled with intrigue and betrayal, and in 2016 Hawthorne gave us a three-part detective story set to some sleek sounds from his album “Man About Town”.

There is a lot more to Hawthorne’s sound and talented background than meets the eye, and I wholeheartedly recommend reading his full bio on his website mayerhawthorne.com or follow him on Instagram and Twitter.

Download a couple of his tunes and buy record or two as well. He’s certainly worthy of his “smooth dude with the gangster groove” description.
