Apex Legend’s latest collection event, Awakening, is more of the same F2P / Paid Content balanced goodness that fans adore, alongside the return of a time honored game mode from Respawn’s history. Contained within this event is a Town Takeover for Lifeline, and a brand new Heirloom; Valkyrie’s Spear.
Since its release in 2019, Apex Legends has seen many Collection Events, in which there are free rewards offered to all players who engage with the game regularly, as well as many Weapon and Character skins, banner add-ons, and Heirlooms. This latest one, however, sees the return of the Control game mode from Respawn’s own Titanfall games.
The addition of this more objective focused game mode in which teams compete to maintain control of three zones in a small map fleshes out Apex’s identity as Respawns own flesh and blood game experience. Giving the player multiple options of play is no easy feat, especially for a battle royale, but Apex pulls it off masterfully given Respawn’s accoladed shooter history.
With a plethora of visually stunning Weapon and Character skins, as well as many banner icons to obtain, this Collection Event makes Apex stand out among the fierce battle royale competition by offering not only skins well worth their value, but also an entire gamemode to boot. Sure, it isn’t new, but if it works, why not add it in?
