This is a good time to post this clip. It’s a Princeton University professor explaining the difference between a democracy and a republic. The rhetoric coming out of D.C. for the past few years has been largely about ‘protecting our democracy’ or ‘defending democracy. While that’s all very dramatic and good branding for a party that almost has democracy in their name, it isn’t the form of government in which we are all a part of. We live in a republic. While there are strong elements of democracy there is a difference and it’s worth a refresher. As someone once said: “Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.” Most attribute that to Ben Franklin, although it’s not provable an ol’ Ben hated being misquoted so we’ll leave it at that. Big shout out to Prager U for this video though. Well done!
Direct democracy is like two wolves and a chicken taking a vote on what to eat for dinner. Thank God we’re a republic!
