It’s hard to get 80% of Americans to agree on anything. I image you’d be hard pressed to get a majority to concede that it’s cold in the winter and warm in the summer. Yet here we are with the vast majority of U.S. citizens wanting voter I.D. So, why isn’t it a thing? Don’t we constantly hear about protecting our democracy? Isn’t that the most important thing? Politicians keep saying it is, so why not protect it? It seems as though every election result is contested. For years we heard the Trump was an illegitimate President because Russia hacked the election. Stacy Abrams still claims she was robbed in her last run in Georgia. Fully a third of Americans believe the 2020 election was full of shenanigans. No one trusts the results. And when no one trusts the results, bad things happen. Laws don’t really work so well. People lose faith in the system. Society starts to break down. So, let’s not do that shall we? Let’s actually protect election integrity with Voter I.D.
The solution is so painfully simple. Show an I.D. to vote. One person, one vote. Whoever is against that must want to cheat. That’s the only conclusion you can reach as a sane person in the modern age. You must want to cheat. Let’s keep our elections on the up and up by eliminating the specter of a doubt. I would suggest we go one step further by eliminating computer touch screen voting and going with paper ballots. Yup. Computers can get hacked. Tallies can get changed with a laptop. It’s much harder to counterfeit tens of thousands of paper ballots than it is to move a decimal point around in some computer lab.
Americans overwhelming want secure elections. Why not do it and defend democracy? You want to cheat. Thats why.
