Pokey LaFarge has been bringing on the country and jazz tinged old time swing sound for around 15 years, but he may still not be a household name.
People might recognize him for his appearance and soundtrack work in the creepy Netflix series The Devil All The Time but it is his music that really deserves some love. No, Pokey LaFarge, isn’t this Illinois-born talent’s real name, but it sure is catchy, just like his sounds. Here are three of great examples of his sound for those looking for brief escape into the summer afternoon fun before the Christmas season hits, starting with the song that turned me onto is music “Get it ‘Fore It’s Gone”:
If you didn’t pick up on it, Pokey is a testament to the “grandpa coolness” of days gone by. One of his recent tunes, “Fine to Me,” delves a little more into the his R&B side, and that’s fine and dandy, too.
Pokey’s music is ever-evolving with one foot in the vintage. If you want some time travel, though, it will be hard to top his 2011 song leading up The South City Three, “So Long Honeybee, Goodbye.”
The stress and rush of winter is coming soon enough. If you still have those lazy summer vibes, listen to Pokey and have a little down time “‘fore it’s gone.”
