With more than a little trepidation I tuned into watch HBO’s The Last of Us on Sunday night. It seems as if Hollywood is hellbent on ruining every intellectual property they can get their hands on. Rings of Power? Shit. Witcher: Blood Origin? Super mega shit. Time and time again we have Showrunners who think they know more than the author of the source material. It’s madness. Is it impossible to honor the original? Just stay true to the source material. Is that too much to ask? Not for the team in charge of The Last of us on HBO. Was an awesome surprise to not be surprised. They actually stuck to the original! What a delight! Did I know what would happen because I played the video game? Yes. Did I really enjoy the show? Hell yes! HBO has delivered the show that I, as a fan, wanted to see. Episode one of The Last Of Us was fantastic. Great cast. Production values that were above and beyond and more importantly a dramatic version of the characters and story the fans wanted. It’s not easy, but it is simple. Granted, we are only in episode one and things could go off the narrative rails but I’m really hoping they don’t. Just keep giving us what we want.
