Sunday Jams – Life’s Been Good

Let’s hear it for Joe Walsh – legendary guitarist and singer/songwriter for The James Gang, Eagles and solo. Amazing guitar work, country-ish twang rock and a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor sets his music apart.

Here are three songs that give only the tiniest taste of Walsh’s long and distinguished career.

First up, “Walk Away” from his time with the James Gang.

It’s 1971 and you have a shag carpet lined van. This is on the radio. You are happy.

No quick review of Walsh would be complete without mentioning his hit with the Eagles, “Life in the Fast Lane”. Word is Walsh was noodling with a cool riff. Glen Frey heard it and dug is so much, he wrote a song around it.

Put headphones on, close your eyes and listen to the lead riffs. Chills, right?

And because it’s me writing this week’s Jams, I have to touch on Joe’s outstanding sense of humor.

Fun fact: he wrote funny comments on the inner groove of his albums. If you have the vinyl, go check it out. We’ll wait.

I could play his anthem “Life’s Been Good” or “Ordinary Average Guys” or “Space Age Whiz Kids”. All good. But I’ll leave you with the last track on side two of “You Bought It, You Name It”.

Can you solve the acronym?
