Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a flop. The movie, how shall we put this nicely, underperformed at the box office on opening weekend. A $60 million opening? For an Indiana Jones movie? Ouch. We won’t get into the ‘why’ of it all. I will link a couple of good pieces though. We all know why Indy flopped. The trailer reeked of woke. People don’t like it. Woke equals bad story telling. Bad scripts and 2 dimensional characters. That’s no bueno. To be honest, I haven’t seen ‘Dial of Destiny’. I’m in no rush to see yet another beloved franchise get choked out by woke politics. It’s all just avoidable and sad. However, it puts the original Indiana Jones on an even higher pedestal. Raiders of the Lost Ark is so much better than you remember. The Script, the characters and yes, the director, Steven Spielberg. That guy is a true master.
Just how good is Spielberg? Watch this. Director Stephen Soderbergh took a copy of Raider of the lost Ark and eliminated the dialogue. Took out the color and the soundtrack for zero distractions. The movie has been distilled down to its most basic form. And when you do that, the brilliance of Spielberg’s direction shines through. Like a mythical staff, showing you the exact location of a great director. Big shout out to Soderbergh for putting this distilled Indy flick together. It’s fantastic. Here’s the clip, followed by a couple of Dial of Destiny pieces.
