Here comes another take on Roald Dahl’s classic Willy Wonka. This time it’s an origin story starring Timothy Chalamet. So, did they get Wonka right? We’ve got the trailer and you can be the judge. A Willy Wonka prequel is a tough nut to crack as a filmmaker. Roald Dahl did such a fantastic job of balancing larger than life characters and situations with a ton of heart. Go too far in one direction and the whole story falls apart. Then there’s the challenge of casting Wonka. Gene Wilder was an absolute master of whimsical disguise. The sympathy he could invoke and then the wonderful insanity would come out in the bllink of an eye. His Wonka is the one that all others look to match. Can Chalamet come close? We’ll see.
