Sunday Jams: Santo & Johnny

While the father of Brooklyn born brothers Santo and Johnny Farina was away in the Army in the early 40s, he heard a steel guitar on the radio and wrote to their mom he would “like the boys to learn this instrument.”

Skip ahead to 1959, and their first hit “Sleepwalk” was well on its way to becoming a timeless, much covered guitar instrumental classic. Check out their live performance on Dick Clark’s Saturday Night Beechnut Show.

This duo had other hits throughout the 60s and early 70s, although not as well known. That’s a pity, because Santo & Johnny’s gorgeous melodies are timeless.
