At some point, you probably owned a Supertramp record. Like Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, Supertramp was a staple on rock stations and your car FM radio.
Rodger Hodgson co-founded Supertramp along with Rick Davies in 1970. This partnership culminated in their hugely successful Breakfast in America album in 1979.
Deep lyrics and his emotionally expressive voice characterize a Hodgson song. He attributed their depth to the passion he felt while still in his teens.
Hodgson left the band and broke out with his amazing first solo album In The Eye of the Storm and the song “Sleeping with the Enemy”.
And what VH1 style story would be complete with the inevitable, melancholy epilogue? Here’s “Hai Hai” which I feel is as good as anything else ever written by Hodgson. But by the time of his second solo album in 1987, the record companies had moved on.
