This is a tough watch. Not because of what was said by Elon Musk, but rather the lack of reaction. By now you’ve probably seen some clips or read some bombastic headline from the mainstream media about an interview/panel show with Elon and Andrew Ross Sorkin. A typical spin on Musk’s remarks goes something like: ‘Elon Musk’s F**k you interview moment wasn’t the worst part’ or ‘Elon Musk lashes out at advertisers leaving X’. Some shit like that. The media loves ‘lashes out’. It’s arguably their favorite. Lashes out! Like a whip! Like a racist whip wielder! Look! He’s lashing! It’s all so boring and predictable. And the incredibly frustrating part is how many people missed Elon’s point completely or just pretended to!
We’ll start with this clip. Now remember, Elon Musk says he bought Twitter to be a champion of free speech. He correctly noted that we need free speech to make sure we are a well-informed public. We also know that our own government was heavily censoring social media content and voices. Now, it would appear that advertisers are threatening to pull their money from X under some super shady circumstances. So, it’s not too big of a leap to start thinking this advertising threat is just another form of control. Of a platform that is supposed to be free speech. Here’s Elon’s eff you moment and lot of silence from Sorkin,
That’s just part of it. Now watch more of the clip where Elon begins to extrapolate on what would be next if X goes under. He spells it out plain and simple. Advertisers leave, X goes under and then? That’s the end. The end of everything. I legit think that is what Elon is implying. No free speech platform? The bad guys step back in. Censorship abounds. Bad guys get to do all the evil shit they want and humanity is doomed. The end. It would have been nice if Sorkin maybe asked that question but all he seemed to care about was advertising dollars. Again, incredibly frustrating to watch.
And it’s not like Elon is pulling this shit outta thin air. Here he is talking about his philosophy and Sorkin is asleep at the switch. It’s some profound stuff from Musk and Sorkin is bored.
So, it goes on and on. Elon Musk is really trying to say something. Something important and the media is going to pretend to be dumb and disinterested. They’ll tell us this is about antisemitic tweets, or advertising dollars. Anything but what it’s really about: Control. Controlling what you and I see. What we care about. Its about molding the opinion of a free people.
I agree with Elon. Without free speech? It’s over. So a giant fuck you to anyone who tries to control us. A giant fuck you to everyone pretending that they ‘care’ and just want twitter users to feel ‘safe’. Fuck All of you. But I think Elon said it best. “What I care about is the reality of goodness, not the perception of it. And what I see all over the place is people who care about looking good while doing evil. Fuck them,” That’s flippin beautiful.
I agree with you wholeheartedly.
The validity of goodness in people is often difficult to find. Many talk a good game, but never ante up when it counts.
The Real Person!
The Real Person!
dig it. Lots of people out there pretending. Its maddening.
