Some Steely Dan greatness & clearing up a TLP podcast mystery.

Sometimes I’m a bit slow on the uptake. On a recent segment of the loftus party podcast extras (Yes, Locals and Patreon peeps get their own segment. We’re cool like that) I was referencing a song by Steely Dan. In particular a killer tune titled ‘My Old School’. It occured to me this morning that maybe some of you haven’t heard it. Ever. The song was released in 1973. That’s a while ago. Now, I’m lucky. I had older siblings that kept great tunes like this constantly spinning in my house growing up. Steely Dan was definitely in rotation. A lot. Among other killer groups from back in the day.

Here’s the point: You gotta hear this group. If you haven’t been turned on to Steely Dan and these absolute killer tracks, you’re in for something awesome. Let’ start with ‘My Old School’. Just the horn section is enough for me. Just that alone is fucking stellar. But enough of the rambling. Here’s some must listen tracks from Steely Dan. Unique doesn’t begin to cover their brand of songwriting.

Am a sucker for this one too. Horns and that organ. Great stuff.

So much to love on ‘Peg’. All of it. Special Bonus points awarded to the guitar solo and that ride cymbal towards the end. Ha! Love it!

  1. The Skunk Baxter guitar solo is one of the top ten solos of all time.
