Just a reminder that I’m not close to being a legal scholar. I have some buddies who are lawyers but that’ about it. There’s a big supreme court case today about Presidential Immunity. Go ahead and roll your eyes now. I certainly did. The whole case seems to boil down to what then President Trump did with questioning the results of the 2020 election. Trump is being sued…. and his legal team says he has presidential immunity. I legit think that’s what we’re talking about. Okay.
So the Supreme Court starts hearing arguments and at some point, a Justice asks if a President can kill his rival. If the President is immune from prosecution for that. That’s about when I tapped out. As a lawyer, I’m gonna need some more details on the hypothetical murder victim. Were they a space alien that survived by eating human flesh? Then the president has immunity. Were they a plumber? Then he doesn’t. When the hell did common sense get left to the supreme court? Dayum!
Enter Justice Alito. He seemed to show common sense in large amounts when it comes to Presidential Immunity.
