This trailer for Disney plus’s The Acolyte is shockingly bad. Let’s discuss. We knew things weren’t looking good for Disney Star Wars, but damn. This is the trailer they went with? This show must really be awful. A couple things to consider: The Acolyte is set 100 years before the Phantom Menace. Evidently everything looks the same. If you’re going to do a Star Wars period piece? You better have one hell of a wardrobe and art dept. This looks like any other Star Wars show for the Disney Channel. That’s not a typo either. This legit looks like a Disney Channel production. I make it a habit to never blame the actors. They we hired by people who’s job it is to make sure the material is delivered in the manner they desire. The director, the producers are responsible for what ends up on screen. They failed. These aren’t the performances you want. There had to be better takes. Better line readings. The dialogue they chose for this trailer is so incredibly pedestrian and standard issue for a Star Wars show that it’s amazing that someone both wrote it and then filmed it. You need a master thespian to make that crap dialogue work.

One nice thing about the trailer: The ship flying through the ice ring layers looked cool. Well done, ILM. Other than that, this is some low-level Disney Channel writing with zero imagination. It’s a sad day for Star Wars when The Acolyte is the best they have.
