It is with great satisfaction that I bring you tidings of recent events on social media. There is currently a battle raging on the right. The H-1B visa war has begun. Lines have been drawn. Things have been posted. It’s a war of ideas over Immigration policy! Vivek, Elon and others find themselves at odds! Is this the end of the America First movement? Nope. Not even close. Why? It’s a war of ideas. That’s what we’ve always wanted! It’s fantastic!
Let’s hash this crap out in the public square and figure out the best path forward! Skadoosh! That is the way! Who doesn’t want a robust argument will lead to a sensible conclusion? Come on! Hell to the yes!
Before we get into who believes what, let’s have brief refresher course on just what the hell a H-1B visa is! The H-1B is a visa in the United States under the Immigration and Nationality Act, section 101(a)(15)(H), that allows United States employers to employ foreign workers in specialty occupations. It is the largest visa category in the United States in terms of guest worker numbers. A specialty occupation requires the application of specialized knowledge and a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent of work experience. The duration of stay is three years, extendable to six years, after which the visa holder can reapply. It started in 1952. Whew. Got it? Now for something a bit sexier. A fight!
But is it really a fight if people are willing to have a rational conversation? Kinda. But it’s one I wanna watch! They got the Donald involved! Good!
I’ll close with this: As long as we’re having a fight about ‘skilled’ workers, can we rail on the U.S. education system? Isn’t part of this problem on the people that were tasked with preparing the next generation? Yes. You know I’m right. I just dont’ want those useless bureaucrats to get through the great H-1B visa war without a scratch. They have a hand in this too. Now? Let’s keep the ideas coming as to a solution! Have at it!
