It’s a new year, and I am refusing to be pessimistic…for now.
I think good things are on the horizon, and this includes the world of anime. I already told you all about the new Lazarus series by Cowboy Bebop director Shinichirō Watanabe set for Adult Swim, but there’s much more in the works.
Here are 3 more reasons 2025 may be another cool year for anime.
One Punch Man is Finally getting a Season 3
In time for the 10th Anniversary of the anime, Saitama, the reluctant hero who trained hard to wield his powerful fist able to take the greatest foes out with just one punch is back for a third season likely in the fall. The dubbed promotion for the anniversary is out, but no trailer yet. If you need to catch up, the first two seasons are dubbed…and the action comedy is top notch.
Kaiju No. 8 is Back as Well
The first season of the anime adaptation of the Kaiju No. 8 was a hit last year, and Season 2 is already set for summer of 2025 for us Western fans. Japanese viewers may get is as early as March. The first season is available dubbed on Crunchyroll, and if you haven’t seen or read the manga..get crackin’. Toho Animation is behind it, and they know their Kaijus!
Twisted Wonderland Anime Will Actually Happen
I am hesitant to mention this one, because it is a Disney+ property, but it’s from Japan where they still create cool Disney content. This is based on the Japanese Disney mobile game that has been around since 2020, and it is popular! Manga adaptions followed in 2022. As a mother of two independent smart females, one teen and one in her early twenties, Japan’s Disney creators know “strong women” don’t want to watch annoying unrealistically flawless girl bosses…they want hot anime Disney villain dudes from the creator of Black Butler. Disney has been neglecting this property for some time, but it is finally getting the anime adaption is deserves this October.
Let’s hope it shines above the flood of Disney’s “same-old, same old” coming this year. There’s no good teaser out for this Disney villains meets Hogwarts idea yet, but here’s a look a the manga trailer.
There might be a spark of hope that mainstream Hollywood is figuring out good intelligent storytelling is more impactful that forced re-education. Yet, until that happens for sure, I’ll continue to follow the master storytellers in the anime worlds.
Here’s looking at 2025 with one big punch…and some new big kaijus!
