With a stroke of his pen, President Trump is bringing the age of the paper straw to a close. Trump announce plans to sign an executive order, “…ending the ridiculous Biden push for Paper Straws, which don’t work…” Trump posted that on Truth Social. The internet was quick to react to the news of the return of the plastic straw.

The whole plastic vs paper straw debate is a solid metaphor for the growth of the bureaucratic state in the last few years. Did you vote on paper straws? Are they an improvement? No and no. You were just told you had to make the switch to save the environment as tons of masks were dumped around the globe. So, if you’re keeping track at home, paper straws didn’t change anything, they don’t work as well and you didn’t have a choice. So, buh, bye paper and welcome back plastic straws.
