Before I head out the door to go do some shows in LA, I thought I’d take a moment to jot down my thoughts on the season two opening episode of Disney Star Wars, Andor. Now If you’re familiar at all with the previous reviews of Disney Star Wars projects, you’ll already know that Andor has been the only bright spot in this franchise that is one the brink of total disaster.
Andor is the only Star Wars show that doesn’t actively insult your intelligence. I’m not saying the show it crazy smart. I’m saying, ‘it’s not stupid’. The characters don’t just do random stupid things. Okay. So how was the first episode of Andor season two? It was good. Not great. It was good. There are a lot of characters to service in the overall story. There are some new characters and new story to kick off. It’s a lot of work for a writer. There is a ton of set up that needs to be done and also an entertaining show to deliver. You can’t just have people sitting around talking.
Tony Gilroy did a fine job crafting this episode. He got all the pieces on the chess board and entertained at the same time. Was the episode perfect? No. Was it a quality re-introduction to Andor? Yup. Mission accomplished. I’m looking forward to episode two. But for now? Am off to the airport. See you in LA.
The opening sequence from Andor was pretty strong as well. Take a look. Peak Star Wars maybe a bit much. But it’s the kind of thing that we like to see. Again: Good job, Gilroy. Nicely done!
I really liked the first season. The problem is didn’t have the fun, fairy tale aspect of Star Wars. It doesn’t quite feel like Star Wars. It’s a tad too serious.
BY FAR the best Disney Star Wars product and I’m looking forward to Season 2.
That’s a good point. I’ve only seen episode one of season 2.. going to get caught up when I get home. Am now hearing some dubious things about the show. Star Wars is a mess. It’s sad. Hopefully Andor can at least deliver a decent story. HA!
