Yesterday we got word that Ozzy Osbourne had died at the age of 76. The news is still sending shockwaves around the globe and the internet. Even for the most casual fan like me, the death of Ozzy hit so much harder than expected. Why is that? I’ve never met Ozzy. On paper, he’s just another random celebrity. But that’s the difference, I think. Ozzy Osbourne wasn’t a stranger. There is a weird and wonderful connection to this guy and it’s fantastic.
Ozzy Osbourne was like your crazy uncle. You didn’t see him all the time, other members of the family thought he was out of his mind, but we all knew they just didn’t ‘get it’. When Ozzy showed up you knew it was going to be ‘different’. Maybe it’ll be funny. Maybe it will be wild and dangerous. All you knew for certain was it was going to be chaos and a good time and that the guy had no malice or bad intentions. None.
I think that’s the thing that’s hitting so deeply for people with the realization that he’s gone. Ozzy Osbourne seemed like a really good guy. A unique talent. An admirable man. He came from nothing, carved his own path in life and made millions of people happy. Even at the very end of his life, doing a huge show and raising millions for charity. That’s a life well lived. Who wouldn’t want to live a life like Ozzy? He will be missed.
The tributes keep rolling in from everywhere. It’s wild to watch. Every walk of life.
This made me laugh out loud.
