In celebration of the new movie released on Netflix today, Happy Gilmore 2, I thought it would be fun to go back and remember some of the best, funniest, most remembered scenes from the original. But let’s be honest here. Since there are just too many to sift though, I went with some of my favorites. You know, the ones that make you laugh out loud even 20 years later. And continue to quote those silly lines like, “you can trouble me for a warm glass of shut the hell up.”
The original Happy Gilmore movie was released in theaters in 1996. The movie’s star, Adam Sandler, was a rising star comedian who had just knocked it out of the park with Billy Madison. The movie sparked a new interest in golf, and even began a new swing for those who play. Although, it seems pretty hard to master.
The movie was full of silly humor, which at the time, was exactly Sandler’s style. And it totally worked here. Each of the characters was uniquely goofy and even the snobby POS, Shooter McGavin, was likeable.
Since the movie’s release we’ve recently lost Bob Barker (himself), Joe Flaherty (jeering fan) and Carl Weathers (Chubbs). Frances Bay (Grandma) also passed, although a while back now.
However, new stars were also born. Julie Bowen (Virginia Venit) went on to starring in the wildly successful tv show, “Modern Family.”
Am I excited for the new Happy Gilmore 2 movie? You betcha! Even if the movie itself isn’t perfection, the fact some of my favorite cast members have made a comeback makes it worth it. That alone can typically hide a horrible sequel. But here’s hoping! And in the meantime, the original movie can be found on Netflix and Amazon Prime now. It’s one of those movies that will never get old.
I’ve never seen the original, but I will now
Highly recommend!! Feel free to share thoughts once you do. 🥳
