Kicking off Halloween with favorite clips from The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror.

“Treehouse of Horror.” Some of the most classic Halloween episodes of any TV show out there. And they’ve been going strong since 1990. The Simpsons is considered the longest running TV series of all time, and with good reason. It’s even been said that The Simpsons has eerily predicted the future, on multiple occasions. Sure, the series has seen its ups and downs. But if anything, we can always rely on some good Halloween fun every season from The Simpsons.

Some of my favorite “Treehouse of Horror” episodes stem from the early days. Hands down, the first handful of seasons can’t be beat. The jokes hold up today, and almost 40 years later!

To kick off Halloween this year, I want to share some of the greatest moments and most clever jokes from these early “Treehouse of Horror” episodes.

The Shinning

“The Shinning” is a parody of the classic horror film (and book!), The Shining. This episode is full of quick touches on every highlight of the original story, with a hilarious twist.

Time and Punishment

“Time and Punishment” is a parody of “A Sound of Thunder,” a famous short story about the effects of time travel. If you know anything about Homer Simpson, this scene is his absolute nightmare. But makes for a great chuckle.

Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace

“Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace” is a parody of A Nightmare on Elm Street with Groundskeeper Willie portraying Freddy Krueger. Right out of the gate I always find myself rolling on the floor in laughter. The delivery of dialogue in this one is the cherry on top.

Terror at 5½ Feet

“Terror at 5½ Feet” is a parody of “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet” from the classic horror and sci-fi series, The Twilight Zone. This joke is quick, yet effective, and gets me every time.

Halloween bonus! The treat in “Trick or Treat.” Here is a full-length version of “The Shinning.” Totally worth the watch. Enjoy, and Happy Haunting!!!

Hi Serena! I love The Simpsons Treehouse Of Horror. There are so many good ones it’s hard to pick. You sure picked some good ones. I love when the Simpsons killed Ned Flanders and when Marge got the automated house system with Pierce Brosnan’s voice Nothing says Halloween like the Treehouse Of Horror even if you didn’t get to see them until November sometimes. It was still worth the wait. Thanks for the Halloween fun!

Thank you Lynne!! And Happy Halloween. The “House of Whacks” episode with Pierce Brosnan was glorious. I just read that according to the DVD commentary, they originally wanted Sean Connery as the voice of the house. Would have been wild!! Hahaha
