Here’s the latest on the mysterious and squishy Senate leader, John Thune. He’s on his way back to South Dakota after a strange evening of negotiations to spend our money in DC. The dude is in the hot seat and things show no signs of cooling off anytime soon. Once upon a time a senator could effectively punt on some big issues and go on a break and just wait for the news cycle to move on. Those days are over. As more and more people switch from TV news to outlets like ‘X’, the heat is unavoidable now. As the saying goes: The Internet never forgets.
So, what’s the latest with Thune? What happened with the TSA, ICE and the Save Act? And before we go any further, just know that ICE is funded through 2029. There was $75 Billion for ICE in the Big Beautiful Bill. So, there’s that.
Now Thune and the Senate are on a break for Easter. Huh… So, nothing on the SAVE act? Nope.
Now the SAVE Act is the one about Voter ID that the vast majority of Americans support. It gets weird when all the excuses start flying around. It’s the murkiest shit imaginable. You will hear every excuse known to man. “It’s about a majority” “We don’t have the votes” “We don’t need that many votes, it’s about the Filibuster!” “It’s about the talking Filibuster” “It’s about the undermining the Trump agenda”.
It’s madness and it’s no way to run a country. I think we can all agree that the “Silent Filibuster” is bullshit. If you want to Filibuster? You need to explain. In person. In front of everyone.
- Talking Filibuster (Traditional): A senator or group of senators speaks on the Senate floor for as long as possible to delay a vote on a bill.
- Silent Filibuster (Modern): A senator privately notifies leadership of their intent to filibuster, forcing a 60-vote threshold to move forward.

As far as I can figure out, Thune doesn’t want to change the way the Senate operates. (Notice I didn’t say ‘Works’) I think he wants to maintain the status quo. That’s not going to cut it.

In closing, the TSA will hopefully get paid soon. ICE is already funded through 2029 and will continue. We are back to square one on the filibuster and the mysterious and squishy Thune looks like he’s dragging his feet to preserve the swamp.
Did this surprise anyone? The Senate flew out of capital like a Baptist after Sunday services looking for a casserole . Leave it to them to get out of Dodge for 2 weeks,while the SAVE Act and DHS are hanging by a thread. The Republicans, with very little to show in a year and 3 months, are participating in a political Baatan Death March of their own making. When John Thune was elected Senate Leader,I turned to my sister and said”Trump’s screwed “. Thune has no intentions of rocking the establishment boat. He and other Senators don’t want to put in the work to use the filibuster to get this crucial piece of legislation through to keep our elections secure and fair.We should be asking the question,Why?. He defied Trump’s request to stay in DC instead of going home as well as not allowing Trump recess appointments. Not the actions of someone looking to reshape how our government could actually work for the people who pay his salary. We will be stewing in this during and after Easter and if Thune thinks we’re all still in ham and chocolate bunny induced comas and not paying attention ,he’s got another thing coming. The fight will continue.
It’s gotta be one of more disgusting things we’ve witnessed in the last 3 years. What a douche move. I still don’t fully understand the ICE thing. It really looks as if ICE is fully funded for years. Maybe I’m missing something.
