Everyone is up in arms this morning over a clip of Trump talking about 500,000 Chinese student visas. He says he’s cool with it. Over here at TLP world headquarters? Not so much. How about you watch the clip for yourself and we’ll regroup just below.
Okay, so Trump is being the diplomat and saying it’s all sunshine and lollipops and you don’t want’t the university system to collapse. Hmmm. He might want to double check on that last part. I’m cool with some universities going under. How much money do taxpayers give to harvard and the ivy league gang. And if a university is relying on Chinese students? Here’s an idea. Lower tuition and welcome more students from America! That would seem like common sense.
I’m just glad these Chinese visitors aren’t spies. It’s a bit of solace that the Chinese are fiercely loyal to America, am I right?
Oops! I posted that for comedic effect, but I think you know what I’m saying. We haven’t had a strong track record when it comes to Chinese visitors and people buying farmland next to military bases etc. It would feel like common sense to maybe dial back just a tad on the 500,000 thousand. That seems… excessive?
Let’s hope that things become clearer in the very near future. Maybe this is some ‘Art of the Deal’ stuff. Who know? I do know that if you kicked out 500,000 students? That would be an international incident and that’s no bueno. However, moving forward? Let’s revisit the 500,000 number. That’s absurd.
