Summer is here so it’s time to stock up on all the fun. 1990s style. First, grab yourself a fresh pair of shades. Then, invite all your neighborhood friends to meet at your designated rendezvous point. And finally, dig your Super Soaker out of the garage, dust off the cobwebs, and make sure it still works. Ready? Let’s go!
In the 90s, Super Soakers revolutionized the way kids had water gun fights. We went from small, cheap plastic pistols, which would tire your index finger within minutes. Although loads of fun, don’t get me started on the patience it would take to fill it up through the little tiny hole on the side. This guy remembers the struggle:
But it was thanks to Lonnie Johnson and his invention of this pressure washer of a water gun that let us kids say “so long” to lack-luster water fights.
Over the past few decades, a whole exciting line of water guns hit the shelves. The idea? Fill the water tank with air to create pressure. Once the trigger is pulled, a high-pressure stream of water is emitted. It was a huge deal back then; a range of 50 feet!
It went from a simple single tank, to dual tanks, to three tanks, to an entire backpack full of water! This was obviously turning into a real summer break combat mission.
While as a kid I never asked my parents to buy me one, my neighbors seemed to have plenty stocked in their armory to share with some of us other kids on the block. One friend had the Super Soaker 200, while another had a few of the 50s. And at some point, I do recall there being a backpack in the group (the proton pack we’d call it). The first: the Super Soaker 300.
I also know I acquired an XP 15 some time down the road. Which I can easily liken to the tiny pistol Austin Powers runs around with. It was small, but got the job done.
Over the years, the Super Soaker continued to become increasingly epic. Bigger tanks, more pressure. And now? Well, now you can hook your garden hose to the Super Soaker Hydroburst Hose Blaster. The kids certainly won’t stand a chance.
However it is you choose to spend your summer vacation, don’t forget to level up with very own Super Soaker. It would behoove the adults to just go straight for this Hydroburst Hose Blaster. Participate from the lawn chair, summer drink in hand, and a little backyard R&R.
