When director Takashi Yamazaki’s visual effects superiority gained him an Oscar for the Toho Studio’s 2023 international mega hit Godzilla Minus One, more and more people begin to pay respects to the biggest movie star in the world.

Shortly after, a sequel was announced, but unlike many followups today, fans everywhere were looking forward to it. Yet, how do you top a production like Godzilla Minus One? It was a return to classic Godzilla storytelling with human characters you actually care about, a portrait of human perseverance and heroism, and bit of low key love story, blended with some over-the-top Godzilla style rampaging. Not to mention, the big guy himself looking peak and taking no prisoners. How do you improve on this?

How about filming it for IMAX?

Godzilla Minus Zero, is the first Japanese production to be filmed entirely for the 1.43:1 IMAX aspect ratio. That means created just for massive screens. There is a difference. Many films today are shown on an IMAX screen, but those films for IMAX are done so they create a more immersive experience in sound and sight. I can’t think of a cooler big screen presence than Godzilla to do just that.

The film takes place two years after Godzilla Minus One, when they were certain they took care of the big guy. Well, it doesn’t look like they got the job done. Carnage will ensue, and we can’t wait to see it.

This is one that will need to be experienced in its full glory, on a larger-than-life screen.
