We’ve reached a new level of mask madness. I use the term madness in the old-timey, this is crazy and you know it, sense. I’m struggling to wrap my head around the complete insanity of it all. The return of the mask mandate. As far as I can tell there’s only one reason for a return to masks and that reason is fear. We’re supposed to be afraid. If that’s good or bad remains to be seen. I will say this: I do not dig being emotionally manipulated. Especially by the government that is supposed to protect my rights. It’s extremely, shall we say… distressing. Trying to be polite here.

Back in March of 2020 the New England Journal of Medicine published a study that pretty much said that masks don’t work. For the general public, the types of masks being worn would not protect people from the micro-particles of the Virus. The only upside to wearing a mask would be that the mask would serve as a visual reminder to maintain social distance. I other words, you’d see someone with a mask and get a little jolt of fear. A reminder of ‘oh yeah, that’s right. The Rona is out here. That part made sense to me. I’m a big fan of social distancing from waaaaay back. From before the Rona.

But that was the reason to wear a mask: As a reminder to be afraid.

Now here we are all these months later and there’s a vaccine! If you got the shot, you’re good to go! No mask! Not so fast. In the most bizarre logic twist, people who are ‘safe’ (Vaccinated) now have to wear masks to protect people who aren’t vaccinated? Because why? If the vaccine works it works.

I don’t have the stats and frankly I don’t care. If you wanted the vaccine, you got it. If you’re in the at risk population you got the shot. We’re all done here. The only reason a mask would be required now is to maintain fear. Why? The Delta Variant? Do we have treatments? Are there medicines? I think there are. So why keep selling fear? It is deeply concerning. It makes no sense. Until you look at it through the lens of manipulation. Then it clicks. They want a visual reminder of a threat. They want to maintain fear. For good or for ill, someone wants the fear status to remain the status quo. I don’t dig it.
