The Art of Withdrawal

Once upon a time, a Chinese general, philosopher and writer named Sun Tzu wrote The Art of War. Think of it as a Book of Proverbs for strategy and tactics in combat.

If you asked any military officer in the late 20th century what his most influential book was, he’d probably tell you something like the Bible and The Art of War.

If you asked a Wharton MBA in 1987 what his most influential book was, he’d also tell you the The Art of War.

In 2021, if you ask a military officer what his most influential book was, he’ll likely tell you Robin DeAngelo’s White Fragility. The MBA will lie to you and say, “Samesies.”

So who is reading the The Art of War in 2021? Well, not American military officers–they’re trolling Tucker Carlson on social media and hobbling a generation of military leaders. Smartass meme-ers are, however.
