For the decades I’ve been watching movies and TV and there is no archetype more arch-typical than The General. You know the trope–they’re the tough as nails, real sonofabitch characters that either come across as wrong or, in more recent movies, as evil.

He’d piss on a sparkplug to prevent nuclear holocaust. 
Hollywood’s 9/11 contribution – a general who loves America so much, he hates the A-rabs. 
For his country, this SOB would look away from his daughter being raped – ooh rah! 
Your basic gruff good guy. 
Hollywood’s favorite general – the disloyal bigot who frames the good guy. 
The career general who knows the Real Enemy – White People.
