Here’s the trailer for The Acolyte on Disney Plus. It’s the latest Star Wars project for the streaming service. The Acolyte will be available starting June 4, 2024. In the spirit of fairness, I invite you to watch the trailer before you continue on for my two cents. As a writer and a fan of Star Wars, I have some opinions. Okay. Here we go. I have a bad feeling about this. The Acolyte seems as though it will be yet another fantastic premise that will get the Woke Disney treatment. Set 100 years before The Phantom Menace, someone is killing Jedi, and our heroes need to solve the mystery. That’s a solid idea. A couple of years ago, I would have been legitimately stoked. However, all we’ve seen from Disney Star Wars since they took over the franchise is a systematic wokeness with zero attention paid to good storytelling. (The exception is Andor. Watch that show. Andor is fantastic.) The Acolyte has all the look and feel of the massive disappointments Woke Disney seems to love. We are getting some Obi Wan, Reva, Book of Boba Fett, Rise of Skywalker vibes from this trailer. As always, for the cast and crew, I hope I’m wrong and the show is a success. Just getting all the wrong vibes from The Acolyte trailer.
