Deadpool’s K-Pop Lovefest Is Just What We Need

Three days ago, K-Pop megastars Stray Kids dropped their music video for their single “Chk Chk Boom” from their latest comeback (K-Pop lingo for follow up album), ATE. It broke the Internet.

This is thanks to a lot to their loyal fan following (STAYS), their incredible stage presence, and possibly a couple of very special guests: Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Jackman, in full old school Wolverine mode does a quick appearance at the beginning of the video, with Reynolds making appearances throughout.

No matter what you think of Reynolds, he has a way to making sure the things he loves get plenty of attention. I mean, look at what he did for the struggling Wrexham AFC!

As for Stray Kids, the video was the most streamed video on YouTube for the first 24 hours it when it was released on July 18, and is still trending at #2 on the site having accumulated more than 37,168,668, a number still rising like crazy. That’s no small feat considering their video debuted the same day as the new song by BTS’s Jimin.

This little marriage between Stray Kids and Reynolds isn’t surprising to those who follow K-Pop. Deadpool and Stray Kids have been mutual fans for at least three years. It started when Stray Kids performed a mashup of BlackPink’s “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” and their own “God’s Menu” for the performance competition show, Kingdom: Legendary War.

Their Deapool and Gen-X reference heavy performance gained a ton of international attention, including from Reynolds himself. He started following them on all the socials, and the love fest has continued.

As the release date for Deadpool & Wolverine got closer there were hints Stray Kids might have some involvement. Both Jackman and Reynolds made a trip to South Korea doing a pile of appearances, including showing at the popular Waterbomb Festival. They also did a special interview with Stray Kids’ Bangchan and Felix (both Australians) for Marvel Korea. Don’t worry most of it is in English:

And, now it is official, Strays Kids will have an original song, “Slash,” on the Deadpool & Wolverine, soundtrack. The song debuts this Wednesday, July 24, two days before the movie releases Friday, so be ready for another huge Stray Kids hit.

Reynolds said his original intent was also to get Stray Kids to appear in the movie, but the scheduling wasn’t on their side.

The world going crazy seems to be a daily occurrence now, so it is nice to have a little warm fuzzies. Especially when it comes from the mutual fanboy gushing between Reynolds and Stray Kids.

May it forever continue.
