3 Sci-Fi Trailers You Might Have Missed

The fall barrage of new series and movies is coming in waves with there are the big ones we hear about again and again…and a few of which have already tanked in the box office.

Last week, I did find a couple of trailers and announcements that dropped a for shows that might be worth a watch:

Terminator Zero

This Terminator anime series set in 1990s Japan looks better than the past three Terminator movies put together. It’s a good warning against the dangers of AI, of course, but also features what looks like some intense bloody action on anime can deliver. The face Timothy Olyphant is voicing The Terminator makes it even more cool. I think they could have done a lot better than Rosario Dawson in the voice casting choice, but I’ll still give this one a shot.

Premieres Aug 29 on Netflix.

Secret Level

An animated anthology series by folks behind the darkly wild series Love, Death + Robots, only this time each episode is inspired by a classic video game. I know some video game adaptations have been absolute crap (Borderlands) and some have been surprisingly fun (Fallout), but I like the idea of taking them on as individual short films. From what the trailer shows so far, at least what gamers have been point out, there’s Warhammer 4000, PAC-MAN, God of War, Mega Man, Armored Core, Concord, Crossfire, Dungeons & Dragons, Exodus, Honor of Kings, New World, Aeternum, The Outer Worlds 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Sifu, Spelunky, Unreal Tournament,

This trailer premiered at GamesCon 2024 to a good reception, so I’m hoping at least a few of the episodes are cool. A lot of people are speculating the Armored Core hero looks a lot like Keanu Reeves, but we’ll wait and see on that.

Premieres Dec. 10 on Amazon Prime.

Megalopolis

There has already been some controversy over the trailer for the new Francis Ford Coppola sci-film featuring a huge cast led by Adam Driver, as the “negative reviews” for Coppola’s work were fake. I pretty much figured that was done tongue-and-cheeck, but no matter, this new story look pretty wild. It’s the classic dystopian future saga with a glimmer of hope. This could turn out to be preachy, but it could also turn out to be a beautiful tribute to Fritz Lang and Metropolis. It’s still early on, but I am hoping it does well.

Premieres in theatres Sept. 27.

As we’ve seen countless times, films and series can let viewers down when they finally hit the screens, but so far all three of these look pretty intriguing. We’ll know for sure, at least, by the end of this year.
