With an estimated budget of 110 million dollars and a box off haul of 18.5 million (so far) Kraven the hunter is a mega flop. Now Sony execs are saying they are confused as to why no one wanted to see this flick. Is it that hard to understand? Really? We know why.
Now we’re hearing that other Spider-man villain movies may be at risk. Whaaaa? No. Say it ain’t so!
Let’s rip off the band aid for Sony and get to the heart of the matter: Too many of your movies absolutely sucked. Madame Web was laughably bad. Morbius sucked. Venom 2 was such a thoughtless cash grab it made me angry. Now, ALL of these movies could have (and should have) been great! These are interesting stories. However, you fucked up. You, as a studio, turned out crap. Now you can’t understand why no one wants to see Kraven the hunter? Are you high?
There is no Superhero movie fatigue. There IS crappy movie fatigue. So, if Sony’s plan is to hold on to the rights to these characters by making movies? Make movies that don’t suck. Take some chances. Hire people who love the stories and don’t follow some paint-by-numbers plot.
Let me be clear: You don’t need to reinvent or re-imagine or any of that nonsense. Just get back to the basics of telling a compelling story in an interesting way. It’s simple but it’s not easy. You’re not entertaining anyone. That is why Kraven and all the other Sony movies failed.
If you love the superhero genre, there is no fatigue because love the characters and that type of storytelling. But if you are not totally into it (and I am not), the formula is so obvious and the main outcome so preordained that it is difficult to stay engaged. It probably takes engagement from the general audience to sustain a series of mega hits, and they aren’t showing up if you have lost the primary target fans that drag them along.
I agree with ya. And on top of all that is the most unimaginative story telling in a long, long time. It’s really paint by numbers at this point.
It sucked big time
ouch. Gonna take your word on that one.
